The Town of Mount Pleasant has been selected to participate in Legacy Forward, a national initiative led by National League of Cities with support from Nasdaq Foundation, designed to help communities strengthen and support long standing local businesses that contribute to economic resilience, job creation, and community identity.

Mount Pleasant joins nine other communities from across the country selected for the inaugural cohort, which focuses on helping municipalities better support established and second stage businesses navigating growth, workforce challenges, and long term sustainability.

“Long standing local businesses are essential to Mount Pleasant’s economic resilience and community identity,” said Matt Brady, Economic Development Officer for the Town of Mount Pleasant. “These businesses create jobs, support local families, and help shape the character of our community. Participating in Legacy Forward gives us an opportunity to strengthen how we support existing businesses so they can continue contributing to a strong, resilient local economy for years to come.”

As part of the program, Town leaders will receive training, technical assistance, and access to a national network of municipalities focused on supporting long term business success. While many economic development efforts focus on launching new businesses, Legacy Forward recognizes the importance of helping established businesses adapt, grow, and prepare for future transitions.

The initiative runs from June 2026 through February 2027 and will conclude with a national convening where participating communities will share strategies and lessons learned to strengthen economic resilience and support long term business growth.
